A Detroit man has been charged in a fatal Halloween shooting on the city's southwest side, officials said.

William Deuparo, 27, was arraigned Thursday in 36th District Court, Detroit police said.

Deuparo is charged with first-degree murder and using a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to authorities.

A magistrate remanded the defendant to jail and scheduled his next court hearing for Thursday.

If convicted, Deuparo faces up to life in prison for the murder charge and up to two years for the felony firearm charge.

Court records did not list an attorney for the defendant on Friday. The records show he requested the court appoint an attorney to represent him.
