OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) - In 1987, David Schuhart joined the US Army as a way to get out, travel, and explore the world.
But before he would start his military career, he would have to find a change of plans.
"Started out, I was going to be a military policeman, but my dad got into a horrific car accident just before I shipped out, so I decided to stay home for a few months and take care of him, and the only job that was left that I liked was combat engineer," says Schuhart.
During the peacetime period, Schuhart was deployed to Belize, where he spent six months in the jungle, working on building a bridge that would last for 17 years before a tsunami took it out.
