At the start of each season, the NHL ’s Central Scouting Bureau officially measures and weighs every teenage draft prospect in the world, but it faced a unique challenge when it came to one hopeful for the 2026 event.
The device it uses to chart the height of players extends to seven feet. That has never posed a problem in the past, and may never again, but it did when it came to recording the vitals for Brantford Titans defenceman Alexander Karmanov. The highest free-standing structure in the hockey world could not fit under the bar because he stands seven-foot-one. The scales were, however, equipped to accommodate his 280 pounds.
