The Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA) is gearing up for their annual Be the Reason for the Season Christmas Hamper Campaign, with a need to make upwards of 1,300 hampers this year.
June Gaw, president of the RFDA, said the program differs from the annual Christmas Cheer campaign because the RFDA hampers in Thunder Bay are aimed at helping seniors, single people and couples who would be struggling to put a healthy meal on the table at Christmas time.
"Christmas Cheer is a wonderful organization that does hampers for families, but there are many in our community, singles, couples and seniors who are struggling, so we're there to help them," she said.
The RFDA begins its annual campaign for Christmas right after the last hamper from the current Christmas is distributed.
