The names and faces of local veterans will be hard to miss in the City of Delta for the next week under an initiative to honour those who served with the Canadian Armed Forces.
Timed to coincide with Remembrance Day, the city has raised street banners featuring images of local veterans who have a connection to the municipality and honouring them for their “heroism”.
“I think that it does put a face to the veteran, to the rest of the community,” said Hugh Johnson, president of Legion Branch 61, located in Ladner. “They actually get to see the people that created the freedoms we have today, and see them personally.”
Other Canadian cities have created memorial posters for veterans around Remembrance Day. Vancouver has hung hundreds of banners at Victory Square and elsewhere around the city
