A Rowan University freshman planned to travel to Syria and fight for a Muslim extremist group, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey.
Tomas Kaan Jimenez-Guzal of Montclair and another suspect “pledged themselves to ISIS,” Alina Habba, the acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, said in an online video.
She said Jimenez-Guzal and a second man, Milo Sedanet, discussed travel plans, weapons, physical training and other topics in encrypted conversations between Oct. 4, 2024, and Nov. 4.
Habba alleged that the men “were plotting acts of terrorism in our country," and said investigators had found a photograph of Jimenez-Guzal “standing in front of the ISIS flag, holding a knife.”
According to Habba, the men were connected to the “Halloween terror plot in Detroit.”
