The Eastlake football team was close to repeating as District 1-6A champions this year, but couldn't quite get over the hump in competitive losses to Eastwood, Franklin and Pebble Hills.
But with their playoff lives at stake, the Falcons came up with their biggest win of the season and clinched a playoff berth in the final game of the regular season with a 55-44 road win at Coronado on Thursday.
Eastlake is 5-5 overall and finished district play 3-3. Coronado finishes the season 3-7 overall and 2-4 in district.
