HOUSTON — Flight reductions are now in effect at 40 of the nation’s busiest airports , including Houston’s Bush Intercontinental and Hobby , as air traffic control shortages continue under the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history.

Why flights are being cut
The Federal Aviation Administration began reducing flight operations Friday morning.
4% fewer flights are allowed nationwide starting today.
That number will increase to 10% by next week if staffing shortages persist.
