SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Redfield, South Dakota, is known by many as the Pheasant Capital of the world.

The title dates back to 1908, when just north of the town, residents had the first successful stocking of pheasants in South Dakota.

Since then, it’s taken Redfield by storm.

Residents expressed that people come from all over the United States, some even out of the country, for pheasant season in Redfield.

But there’s more to Redfield than its strong hunting roots.

Mayor Frank Shwartz grew up outside of the town, but has considered it his home for most of his life. As mayor, he looks forward to the project that gets people to stay in the town.
