HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - Officials with the town of Newburgh announced a wastewater system improvement plan to address weather flows exceeding the wastewater treatment plant design capacity could cause a rate increase for the community.
Officials say the new project will feature a 4 million gallon wet weather equalization tank designed to temporarily store excess storm volumes. Officials say the project will provide the utility with resilience against high intensity storms and protect against environmental contaminants.
According to a release, the construction of the project is estimated to be $35 million, and will require a rate increase from the system's rate payers. However, officials say the project will provide long-term cost benefits to the rate payers.
