ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The annual Crane Festival in honor of sandhill cranes is set to take place in Albuquerque this month.

Every year, anywhere between 17,000 and 21,000 greater sandhill cranes migrate from the San Luis Valley in Colorado to the Middle Rio Grande Valley. The city will be celebrating the birds' arrival with a festival at the Open Space Visitor Center, located at 6500 Coors Blvd NW, on Nov. 15.

The free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
