HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Gov. Ned Lamont will file the necessary paperwork Friday to run for a third term in office, two sources tell News 8, capping years of speculation surrounding the governor’s intentions for reelection.

The Democrat is now angling for a feat not achieved by a Connecticut governor since John Rowland. The state has no term limits on its highest office.

In July, Josh Elliott, a Democratic state representative for the 88th District of Hamden, announced his run for governor.

Republican State. Sen. Ryan Fazio declared himself a candidate for governor in next year’s election.

Erin Stewart, the mayor of New Britain, is actively exploring a run for governor.
