PORTAGE, Wis. (WMTV) - The man accused in a deadly 2024 Fourth of July shooting in Columbus pleaded no contest to a homicide charge and was found guilty on Friday, online court records show.

Jonathan Luna made his plea to a count of first-degree intentional homicide by use of a dangerous weapon in Columbia County Court.

A no contest plea means the defendant is not formally admitting guilt, but allows the person to accept conviction.

As part of the plea, charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide and misdemeanor bail jumping were dismissed.

A sentencing date was not set yet.

Luna, 23, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison for the homicide charge. A judge will decide if he is eligible for extended supervision.
