The Pittsburgh region’s famously old voters have quietly selected what must be one of the youngest cohorts of political leaders in America. While so much of the unelected leadership of the region hails from the Boomer generation (or even earlier), the political leadership is decidedly Millennial.
The question is whether these young leaders can be a disruptive (but constructive) force within the region’s hidebound systems of power — or whether they’ll just be assimilated into it.
Pittsburgh Mayor-elect Corey O’Connor and Controller Rachael Heisler are both 41 years old, while Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato is 39.
The region’s congressional delegation also has an average age of 40: Reps. Summer Lee (37), Chris Deluzio (41) and Guy Reschenthaler (42). The median age of members
