A Dorchester man is facing a slew of charges after police allege he strangled an Uber driver during a violent carjacking in Boston Thursday.
Boston police officers responded to the intersection of Massachusetts and Columbus avenues around 6:30 p.m. for the reported carjacking and found a “highly distressed” Uber driver, the department said in a statement .
A witness told officers they saw the rideshare driver struggling with someone in the vehicle’s back seat, according to police. The driver managed to escape and screamed for help as the suspect got behind the wheel and drove off, the witness reportedly said.
