ROCK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An armed standoff in Mercer County ended Thursday morning with one man dead and another injured following a shooting between two brothers in Rock.

According to the West Virginia State Police, the incident began around 9:35 a.m. when Mercer County 911 received a report of a shooting on Rock Road. Responding troopers found 80-year-old Randall Mabe lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds. He told authorities that his brother, 72-year-old Fredrick Mabe, had shot him and then barricaded himself inside a nearby home with a handgun.

State Police units surrounded the residence as crisis negotiators, the SRT Delta Team, K9 units, and bomb technicians deployed to the scene. The standoff ended when Fredrick Mabe fired at SRT members, who returned fire, fatally striking him.
