A 41-year-old Guelph man faces a handful of charges after being pulled over for a hit on the automated licence plate reader (ALPR).

Guelph police said on Thursday, at 7:30 a.m., an officer was patrolling on Speedvale Avenue West when the cruiser’s ALPR system alerted to a vehicle associated with a suspended driver.

The officer followed the vehicle onto Woolwich Street as it passed several vehicles that had pulled over for an oncoming ambulance, police said.

The driver pulled into a parking lot where he was approached by police. Officers said the driver was acting erratically and had trouble focusing on the conversation, police said, and noticed a glass pipe in the centre console.

The man was arrested and during a search officers recovered a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine
