NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A therapy dog that was pivotal in the healing process for students after a deadly shooting at a Nashville school has been named the winner of the 2025 American Humane Society (AHS) Hero Dog Awards .

“Once a stray, Sgt. Bo’s journey from loneliness to heroism is a powerful story of hope and love,” an AHS press release said. “His soulful eyes speak volumes, offering safety, warmth and unconditional care to all he meets.”

Sgt. Bo was announced the contest winner Friday morning. He was recognized for his work as a therapy dog for the Metro Nashville Police Department, where he supported students after the deadly shooting at the Covenant School.
