PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence councilors have banned the use of gas-powered leaf blowers in the city.
The first phase of the ordinance allows the use of gas-powered leaf blowers only between Oct. 1 and Dec. 15 starting in 2028, with a full ban taking effect in 2033.
Councilors in support of the move say this will improve the health of residents and the climate, while also cutting down on noise pollution.
Many are against the ban, arguing that small businesses will take a serious hit.
Similar measures have been introduced in the past, but never crossed the finish line.
