KNOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - An Eastern Kentucky organization assembled hundreds of meal backpacks for students in less than 24 hours as families face food assistance uncertainty during the government shutdown.
Roscoe’s Daughter Incorporated, led by CEO Kate Clemons, provided take-home meal bags to 500 children across Perry and Knott counties for the weekend.
The organization was founded following the region’s deadly flooding in 2022 and worked to feed those impacted.
With SNAP uncertainty during the shutdown, Clemons wanted to help again.
“Two days ago, I began reaching out to our local schools to find out who has weekend meal programs, I was stunned to find out in two counties, Perry and Knott, there are over 10 schools that do not have a weekend meal program,” Clemons said.
