Newark's typical 20-foot Christmas tree will no longer be found at the corner of Main and Academy streets this season, as it has for decades.
This year, the University of Delaware has declined to allow the city to pitch this evergreen on its Academy Lawn – instead pushing the pinnacle of downtown holiday decoration to outside City Hall. A smaller version will still be allowed for the one-day Winterfest event on the lawn, now in its 30th year, according to the city.
