MONROE, La. (KNOE) - On Nov. 7, 1967, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967.
It established the Corporation for Public Broadcasting as a private non-profit corporation.
Its purpose was to fund and support public radio and television.
Its establishment led to the creation of educational, cultural and instructional over-the-air free programming to more than 350 public television stations.
