Woodrow Lowe, a three-time All-American linebacker for Alabama who played 11 seasons for the NFL’s San Diego Chargers, has died. He was 71.
Lowe died Thursday morning after a lengthy illness, his brother, Eddie Lowe, the mayor of Phenix, Alabama, told AL.com .
“Woodrow was a great older brother,” said Eddie Lowe, 65. “He pushed me, not just in football, but in life. He was pushed himself, and he passed that down to me. He was a good person, a very good person. He loved people and gave of himself his entire life. He lived a good life.”
Born June 9, 1954, in Columbus, Georgia, Lowe played four seasons at Alabama for legendary coach Bear Bryant from 1972-75. The 6-foot, 227-pound linebacker helped lead the Crimson Tide to four consecutive SEC championships in his four seasons, including
