Experts have revealed the existence and fate of fragments of the Stone of Destiny , after it was taken from Westminster Abbey by Scottish nationalist students in 1950.

The Stone - also known as the Stone of Scone - is an ancient sandstone block historically used in the coronation of Scottish monarchs.

On Christmas Day 1950, a group of four Scottish students removed the stone from Westminster Abbey, intending to return it to Scotland.

During the removal process, the stone broke into two pieces.

After burying the greater part of the Stone in a Kent field, where they camped for a few days they uncovered the buried stone and returned to Scotland,

Now, research from the University of Stirling has discovered what happened to many of its pieces after its infamous raid
