Matthew Shane Theobald, the man previously accused of killing his father, Lenny Doe, with a shotgun, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder during a court appearance Thursday.

A press release issued by Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said Theobald, 35, of Chico was living at a property owned by Doe, 54, on West Sacramento Avenue and there had been “tension” between the two in the weeks leading up to the incident.

“On Sept. 22, 2025, Doe asked Theobald to do some chores on the property while Doe was away at work. When Doe returned to the property, he found Theobald had not completed the tasks given him, and the two argued outside,” Ramsey’s release said. “Doe threatened to call Theobald’s parole agent. Angered, Theobald entered the house, retrieved a shotgun, and ran at his fath
