The second-annual Tree of Hope lighting ceremony drew dozens to Lamoureux Park on Thursday and served as a symbol of ongoing commitment towards justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirited+ persons (MMIWG2S+).
The glow of red lights illuminated the emotional ceremony near Cornwall’s clock tower, aiming to encourage reflection, awareness, and action by honouring MMIWG2S+. Each sparkle of light represented a victim in Canada — a lost life, and a family’s resilience. The event included a moment of silent, speeches, and singing led by community leaders from Akwesasne.
