BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- It has been almost four decades since the “Predator” franchise began. There have been eight movies featuring the hunter with a laser focus if you count a couple of crossovers into the “Alien” worlds.

Instead of the franchise going stale after so many years, the latest offering, "Predator: Badlands," is easily one of the best in the series. Only the original eclipses it and that is because a first film always has the element of surprise on its side.

Credit director/co-writer Dan Trachtenberg and co-writer Patrick Aison with breathing new life into the series. They loyally stick to the core of the franchise but expand it by turning 180 degrees the standard direction of each previous tale and finding places to drop in some humor.
