York City Council has reversed its decision to ban vehicles, including blue badge holders, from the centre during the Christmas Market.

The authority made the ruling for beyond the market barriers for over five weeks leading up to Christmas, in a meeting on October 7, based on North Yorkshire Police's security recommendations.

York City Council website states: "An urgent report was taken to a meeting of the Executive on Tuesday 7 October, following a formal recommendation from the Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police that the council implements a temporary Anti-Terrorism Traffic Regulation Order (ATTRO), for the period of the York Christmas Market 2025 (Thursday 13 November to Friday 21 December).
