A one-year-old child has died after being struck by a freight train in the New South Wales north-western slopes.
Emergency services were called to Baan Baa, near Narrabri, at about 7:50pm on Friday evening following reports a child had been hit by a freight train.
The one-year-old girl was treated by paramedics for serious injuries before being taken to hospital where she later died.
The train driver — a 22-year-old man — was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established and investigations are continuing into the circumstances of the incident. Loading
