LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Fire and Rescue is offering tips and reminders after responding to three small fires on Thursday.
Crews responded to a fire in the area of 63rd and Knox streets at 12:53 p.m.
LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said a candle burned out of control on a stove, leading to a fire. Crews on scene extinguished the fire and helped the tenant ventilate the structure.
Lierman said sometimes candles will burn down too far and crack the candle. People are encouraged to not leave candles unattended and keep debris, trash, food and paper away from them.
Crews responded to a business near North Eighth and S streets at 1:50 p.m. for a lithium battery on fire in a closet.
Lierman said the business owner took the battery outside and extinguished it.
