Greater Boston’s wealthiest schools continued to grow their endowments by the billions in the year that ended in June despite the ongoing federal crackdown.

Five of the largest endowments in the state are growing steadily despite a backdrop of financial uncertainty this school year and unprecedented cuts . This year, endowments are under a microscope since larger schools will see a big increase in the taxes they pay on the growth of their endowments , while smaller once will pay no endowment taxes, beginning with the first full tax year after Jan. 1, 2026.
