WASHINGTON, Ill. – Lighting upgrades will soon be coming to Washington’s downtown square and surrounding area.
The city council this week approved spending more than 23-thousand dollars to install LED lights on 35 light poles along the square and nearby city parking lots.
Public Works Director Brian Rittenhouse tells 25 News the hope is to bring a fresh aesthetic to the downtown area.
“Having the lighting look good over the decorations and for the square, for the community, and for the businesses is, I think, very important,” Rittenhouse said.
City leaders are hopeful the LED lights help alleviate maintenance problems and make light colors more uniform.
