NILES Construction is underway for brand-new tennis courts for the Niles City School District.
Niles City Schools Treasurer Sean Miller tells 21 News this will be the first time the district has a tennis court of its own.
In previous years, the district used tennis courts at Stevens Park in Niles. Since then, many of those have turned into pickleball courts, and the remaining tennis courts were deemed unplayable.
The district has since moved to the Avalon Country Club's tennis courts for now, but decided to build its own courts for future seasons.
The district will build five courts as part of a $361,500 project. $175,000 of that is coming from a grant from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the rest will come from district funds.
