Teola Blake

Family, friends, and classmates are mourning the sudden and heartbreaking death of Teola Blake, a beloved Maryland mother remembered for her laughter, loyalty, and love of family.

Blake’s passing has left a deep void in the lives of her loved ones — especially her 9-year-old son, Dwayne, who is now being cared for by his grandmother as the family works to rebuild their world without her.

“Teola was a loving mother of four and a guiding force for her family, always putting her children and her own mother first,” relatives said through a family statement on a GoFundMe page launched to support the child.

“Her passing has left a deep void in the lives of those who loved her, especially Dwayne, who shared a close and special bond with her.”

The family says they are determined to provide Dwayne with “the stability, support, and love he needs to heal and move forward,” as they navigate a loss that has shaken everyone who knew her.

Teola, a proud Largo High School Class of ’97 graduate, was known by classmates and colleagues for her kindness and humor — the kind of friend who made every day a little brighter.

“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of another Largo Alumni, Teola Blake (Class of ’97),” the Largo High School Alumni Association wrote in a tribute post. “Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Her friend Brandy Jones shared a moving tribute that captured Teola’s energy and spirit.

“Sis, I love you. I was thinking about you the other day when I passed your job. About the laughter we shared,” Jones wrote. “We would laugh like it wasn't anybody's business. She would call me at 2 a.m., ‘Nicole, can I borrow a dollar?’ When we got to work, we would race each other in the building. She would keep you laughing all day long.”

Jones recalled how Teola became like family — a friend who never failed to show up.

“Sis, I love you. I’m truly going to miss you… You are definitely my sister and my best friend. I love you, gal. Take your rest.”

Another family member, Ivory Niamoni, shared how the news left them heartbroken.

“Woke up to the most shocking news and still waiting for the news to change! To my mom, cousins, and my Auntie, I am praying that God guides you through this dark and painful journey. We are not okay! We love you, Teola Blake.”

Now, as the family mourns and adjusts, Dwayne’s grandmother is stepping in to care for him through the unimaginable. A GoFundMe has been launched by Jasmine Blake to help provide stability, counseling, and educational support during this transition.

“Every contribution will go directly toward ensuring Dwayne has the resources and care he needs as he navigates this heartbreaking transition,” organizers wrote.

Those wishing to help can visit the fundraiser, titled “Support for Dwayne After Mom’s Passing” here.

Jones added: "Before I go, Teola, you got a dollar?"
