OXLEY police are investigating why a young toddler was on a roadway before she was hit and killed by a passing train overnight.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services near Boggabri, the one-year-old girl died from severe injuries on Friday night.
Oxley police confirmed a crime scene was set up at the accident site just before 8 o'clock on Friday, November 7, on Baranbah Street at Baan Baa, between Boggabri and Narrabri.
Emergency services rushed to the location after a triple zero call reported a child had been hit by a freight train.
NSW Ambulance paramedics tried desperately to treat the one-year-old for her injuries before she was rushed to hospital. Despite emergency efforts, she died in hospital.
