DEDHAM, Mass. —

A United States Postal Service letter carrier was bitten by a dog while delivering mail in Dedham, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, according to animal control.

Dedham Animal Control officer Deni Goldman says the dog pushed back its owner through a partially opened door and bit the carrier's leg.

The letter carrier sustained minor injuries.

According to a recent U.S. Postal Service report , there were more than 6,000 dog attacks on letter carriers in 2024, the highest mark in seven years.

Goldman suggests the following tips so postal workers can remain safe while doing their jobs:

Keep your dog indoors and away from the door during delivery times.
