Costco is warning customers about sparkling wine bottles that could potentially shatter, even when not “handled or in use.”
The notice pertains to bottles of Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene. The store says the bottles were sold between April 25 and Aug. 26, 2025.
The implicated bottles are identified with the item number 1879870.
What states were the wine bottles sold in?
The wine bottles were sold at Costco stores in the following states, according to the letter to Costco members.
- Iowa
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- Minnesota
- Missouri
- North Dakota
- Nebraska
- Ohio
- South Dakota
- Wisconsin
What should you do if you have purchased the wine?
For customers who have bottles that were named in Costco's letter, the company recommends disposing of them immediately by wrapping them in paper towels and a plastic bag, before throwing them in the trash can.
Costco says people should take those steps to avoid broken glass from spreading inside the trash can. Customers who received the letter will be entitled to receive a refund without returning the wine bottles to the store.
Costco separately announced recall of Dubai chocolate snacks
Last week, Costco shared a recall announcement regarding Dubai chocolate snacks in a notice on its website.
Rolling Pin Baking Company, the New York-based bakery that makes the Dubai chocolate squares called Dubai Style Chocolate, initiated the recall.
Costco sold the snacks between May 1 and Aug. 29, and according to Rolling Pin Baking Company, the allergen statement printed on the snack packaging lists the incorrect allergen.
