A student was found with a gun in his bookbag at Waterbury Career Academy on Friday and he is in custody of Waterbury police, according to the school and police.

The school was placed into shelter in place until police knew who we were looking for and their exact location, police said. Within minutes, the school resource officer and other police found the student and detained him.

Police said he had a black handgun in his bookbag and he was immediately placed under arrest, police said.
