BROOKINGS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A new mural is being painted at the Brookings Public Library, thanks in part to a six-figure donation made in June.

The mural will be featured in the Library’s teen area and designed by local artist Rachel Funk.

After a $120,000 grant from Lowe’s Hometown Grants was awarded, employees from Lowe’s in Brookings started painting the mural as part of a volunteer work day.

The mural is part of an effort to update the teen and children’s areas in the Library.

“The mural will help better define and distinguish the Library’s teen area, which is right inside the entrance,” said Nancy Swenson, technology services librarian and programming supervisor. “We plan to replace the furniture with seating that’s more engaging and welcoming for teens.”
