For the first time in three years, Nikki Boyd and her husband Army Maj. LaQuentin Boyd were able to enjoy a veterans luncheon together.

Major Boyd recently returned from service overseas.

For Nikki, it was important to show their daughter, Lily, and her classmates at the Toledo Technology Academy of Engineering that many people have sacrificed for their freedoms.

“Things like this are very important for the veterans and for the kids," said Mrs. Boyd, also a veteran. “I don’t want my daughters to forget that freedom is not free.”

The Veterans Appreciation Lunch on Friday was intended to thank veterans for their service.

Katie Asmus, a social studies teacher and National Honor Society advisor, said this was the second year for the event at the school.
