CLEVELAND — A violent crime reduction initiative in Cleveland involving local and state law enforcement led to 10 felony arrests and the seizure of nine illegally possessed firearms Thursday, according to Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's office.
One of those taken into custody was a driver who fled from a traffic stop on Cleveland's east side with two young children in the vehicle, leading officers on a dramatic pursuit.
At around 5:35 p.m., officers from the Cleveland Division of Police and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol attempted to stop a white Jeep for a traffic violation.
Officials said the driver, 26-year-old Javion Griffie, refused to stop and sped away, prompting the OSHP Aviation Unit to monitor the vehicle from the air while ground units ended the pursuit.
