WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Supreme Court is set to discuss an appeal today from Kim Davis, a former clerk from Kentucky, during their closed-door conference. Davis is seeking to overturn a lower court order that requires her to pay damages and attorney fees to a couple she denied a marriage license in 2015.
The appeal is a longshot attempt to overturn the landmark Supreme Court decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. Davis refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses due to her religious beliefs, despite court orders.
The Supreme Court could announce their decision on whether to take up the case as soon as today. Davis has been fighting the lower court's decision for years, hoping for relief from the financial penalties imposed on her.
