WASHINGTON — Two men accused of a violent assault on Aug. 3 that helped prompt the deployment of federal troops in Washington, D.C., appeared in court today. Both suspects were denied release after a judge called one defendant’s recent history “disturbing.”
Eighteen-year-old Anthony Taylor of Temple Hills, Maryland, faced a preliminary hearing Friday in D.C. Superior Court. On the stand was a Metropolitan Police Department detective, and prosecutors played surveillance video showing what they say were three separate crimes committed by Taylor on the night of the attack.
Judge Robert Hildum found probable cause for every charge against Taylor — including robbery, attempted unarmed carjacking, and assault with intent to commit robbery.
