HERNDON, Va. — Two people are dead after a fire in Herndon Thursday morning, according to Fairfax County Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to the 1500 block of Shellbark Place around 7:20 a.m. for a report of a house fire. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the blaze. A search of the home found two people inside. They were pronounced dead on scene. Firefighters have not identified them.

No one else was in the home at the time and no other injuries were reported, according to Battalion Chief David Bentley.

Bentley said the 911 caller was a neighbor who noticed the flames and ran to try to alert the homeowners, but there was no answer. The neighbor also tried to put out the fire with a garden hose, but was not successful.
