ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Ahead of Veterans Day, Delta Air Lines thanked their own veterans and those across the country for their service.

The airline employs thousands of veterans and has put on this ceremony for 14 years as a way to say thank you, with memorabilia, vintage aircrafts and Delta Purple Heart awards.

“Honoring service is not just a one-day event, it’s a year-round responsibility,” said Ryan Gumm, senior vice president of flight operations.

The event was created in 2011 by one of Delta’s own aircraft mechanics, Mark Norris, who served in the Marines. This year, the ceremony was hosted in Delta’s largest airplane hangar to honor the more than 11,000 veterans who work for them.
