(WPTA) - 10 schools in northeast Indiana received a Purple Star designation from the Indiana Department of Education on Friday.

Purple Star designations are awarded annually by the agency to schools that have ’displayed a significant commitment to service members, veterans, and students and families connected to our nation’s military’.

The designation means the school must have the following:

a designated staff member, with required grade-level training, who serves as the liaison for service members, veterans, as well as students and families.

a webpage to provide recognition and resources for service members, veterans, as well as students and families.

a military recognition event that demonstrates a military-friendly culture.
