TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, along with the Tangipahoa Parish government and Environmental Protection Agency, announced that the Tangipahoa River was fully reopened to the public on Friday, Nov. 7.

The reopening of the river follows the Smitty's Supply explosion, which occurred in August 2025.

Although the river is open for the public to use, the cleanup and recovery operations will continue at specific areas along the river to ensure the long-term protection of water quality and surrounding ecosystems.

Boaters and residents are urged to be mindful of the ongoing work, personnel and containment boom that may still be in effect. In addition to this, the LDEQ advised the public not to disturb any equipment during these final cleanup an
