(NEXSTAR) – Honda is recalling over 400,000 of its popular Civic vehicles after discovering that a manufacturing flaw may cause the wheels to come off while driving.
The voluntary recall applies to 406,000 Civics spanning model years 2016 to 2021.
The issue stems from a supplier error, according to Honda, that "could cause the wheel nuts to loosen and detach."
"This could result in the wheel separating from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash or injury," Honda said in a press release.
Honda says only a limited number of vehicles are equipped with the potentially faulty wheels (3,276), and encourages owners of a recalled Civic to take their car to an authorized Honda dealership for an inspection.
If necessary, the dealership will replace the wheels for free, according to Honda.
