HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Two Hernando County drivers were arrested after they were caught going over 100 mph near an active school zone on Thursday afternoon, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies said a Ford Mustang driver and a Volkswagen driver were both clocked at 101 mph in a 55 mph zone on Powell Road east of Spring Parkway.
A school crossing guard told deputies that they had to hold children back from crossing the road due to the vehicles' extreme speeds.
A deputy caught up to both vehicles and was able to stop them inside the school zone, the sheriff's office said.
Both drivers were taken to the Hernando County Jail.
"Drive safe, not cinematic. Leave the racing to Hollywood," the sheriff's office posted on Facebook.
