GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —
Dianne Mitchell has won the republican special election primary runoff for South Carolina House District 21 after a recount.
Mitchell ran against Steve Nail in the election on Tuesday, but the results were too close to verify her victory. After the count on Tuesday, Mitchell reportedly was leading by 22 votes.
Following the recount on Friday, Mitchell secured her victory with 20 more votes than Nail (1,536 to 1,516).
Mitchell was not at the recount, but was represented by her Husband. Nail was there and spoke to us after the recount.
"It was a hard-fought race. I congratulate Diane Mitchell. I wish her all the best. I'll be praying for her. And she goes down to the state House and represents me as well as all the other people in district 21," he said.
